Residential – SW 13800 Deteached addition

narrative and concept

The architectural concept focuses on integrating the existing residence with new structures that expand its functionality without compromising natural light or spatial continuity. The architecture organizes the site through three primary gestures: establishing a clear hierarchy of access, creating a livable transition between interior and exterior, and structuring the recreational landscape around water as a central element. The pitched roofs and tall structural posts allow the architecture to breathe, filtering light and creating a sense of openness even within large covered spaces. Through this strategy, the intervention transforms the property into an integrated residential environment where circulation, landscape, and architecture function as a unified spatial experience.
“Architecture emerges when interior space chooses to meet the landscape“

COMING SOON

Coming soon: we will be working on this project. Here you’ll be able to follow its progress and updates.

Structural Challenges

One of the primary structural challenges of the project was resolving a deep rear terrace without blocking natural light from entering the existing interior spaces. This required the use of tall structural posts and pitched gable roofs capable of spanning wide areas while maintaining a visually light structure. In addition, the integration of multiple exterior components—porte cochère, terrace, pool, gazebo, and guest house—required careful coordination of structural systems and foundations to ensure compatibility between the new additions and the existing residence.

Structural Compatibility

Structural compatibility was achieved through a careful integration between the new structures and the existing building, respecting the original load paths, alignments, and construction systems of the house. Each intervention was designed to complement the existing framework without creating unnecessary structural stress, allowing elements such as the porte cochère, covered terrace, and recreational areas to function as natural extensions of the residence while maintaining overall structural coherence.

Structural Continuity and Stability

Structural continuity and stability are ensured through a coherent system of vertical supports, pitched roof structures, and properly engineered foundations that efficiently distribute loads throughout the site. The combination of tall posts, sloped roof forms, and well-defined structural connections allows large covered spaces to be achieved without compromising stability, ensuring durability, resilience, and a clear architectural expression of each built element.
